Melissa and Robert , the owners of Subsidy Shades, are pretty freakin’ amazing. In 2013, they adopted a gorgeous little baby girl Jacqueline , but this  story of love does not end there. Their brand new baby girl’s birth mom and her four children were homeless. Instead of turning a blind eye, Melissa and Robert raised massive funds, which purchased a home for their daughter’s birth mother and other children. In January 2014, Melissa began Subsidy Shades as a business to help fund the adoption of their second baby as well as help others adopt. Isn’t that a sweet story?

The shades are extremely affordable and fashionable, and the cause tremendous.

I can’t wait to hear/see what shades you choose. I’ve got my eye on Subsidy Shades’ Classic collection, and my boys will be sporting the Wayfarers for kids, which come in a TON of cool colors.

Outfit Ideas: White After Labor Day

Hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend and took full advantage of the last chance to wear white. Where and when did this, can’t wear white after Labor Day, fashion rule start? White is such a versatile color that it can be worn as a neutral, an accent or an ensemble. Not to mention it looks great on everyone. If Coco Chanel loved wearing white all year round, I think it’s safe for me try this fashion faux pas. Here’s how I plan to incorporate white into my fall wardrobe.

Not wearing a white dress shirt after the summer seems unrealistic. This summery work outfit can be easily transitioned for early fall by adding a cardigan for layering.

This white a-line skirt is an easy pairing for bright colors and fun prints in the summer. For fall, I like to keep the palette simple and add a few pops of color with accessories. A jean jacket makes the perfect layering piece for chilly mornings.

I know neither the pineapple print nor the powder pink blazer screams autumn, but I can’t pass up the opportunity to wear two of my favorite pieces together.

Since I don’t drink coffee, a tweed jacket is my pumpkin spice latte. This one had me at elbow patch. On colder days, I’m thinking boots and cozy boot socks instead of flats.

Do you follow this fashion rule? Or do you plan to follow in footsteps of Coco and embrace this fashion faux pas?

Outfit Ideas: Mixing Patterns

To be honest, mixing patterns is a bit out of my comfort/style zone. At some point I even thought it was a bit tacky. Yes, I was a hater. After accidentally putting together a mixed pattern outfit in the dark one day, I am now a fan of this growing trend. I think the scale of the patterns is the key. Two large patterns together can make the pieces compete against each other and two small prints can result in an outfit that is too busy to focus. I’m sharing a few of my faves.

Mixing two monotone patterns or patterns in a similar color scheme is an easy starting point if you are a novice mixer like me.

Mixing bold and subtle prints together balances the outfit. This is a good option for work attire pattern mixing.

Subtle textural patterns, like an eyelet, carry bold colors well and can handle being paired with complementary colors.

My pattern mixing is still rather tame. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll work up the courage to rock a Peter Pilotto sundress. On an unrelated note, I noticed I wear a lot of skirts. What are your thoughts? Are you a fan of mixing patterns?
