Outfit Ideas: Red, White and Blue

What’s more Americana than red, white and blue? This patriotic color scheme is more than just a flag on a t-shirt on the 4th of July. Variations of this color combination can be worn all year round. Quite a few designers have created timeless pieces in this palette for their collections. I’m currently crushing on the collaboration between Zooey Deschanel and Tommy Hilfiger. I mean she’s so stinkin’ cute. Inspired by this collection, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite red, white and blue outfits to share.

First up, horizontal stripes. A basic and classic pattern that I consider as a wardrobe staple. Add a few red accents and it’s ready for work or a family BBQ. Horizontal stripes can tricky. It’s a good idea to play around with proportion of the stripes and silhouette of the garment to find something that flatters your body type.

Nautical is an easy way to incorporate this color combination. I’m partial to anchor prints for the summer. To avoid looking too sailor-ish, use small accents or focus on just one large graphic.

The trend of color blocking is still going strong. Red, white and blue is a great way to try out this fashion craze if you’ve been staying away. Generally I try to avoid neons and go for colors that are more versatile. Tim gun may consider this combination boring and safe, but high lighter yellow just isn’t for me.

Outfit Ideas: Food for Thought

It’s hot out, yo! Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago I shared some spring color palettes? Around here spring is very short-lived. Sneeze and you might miss it. One of my favorite things about summer is going to local farmer’s markets. I love the vibrant colors of fresh produce and the smell of perfectly ripened fruits. Sometimes a trip to the market not only provides bounty for dinner but ideas for my wardrobe as well. Here are a few of my favorite summer time eats inspired outfits.

Watermelon and mint: classic and refreshing. Who doesn’t like a tall glass of cold mint watermelon spritzer? Translate it into an outfit that is both appropriate for work and fun for a casual summer wedding. I’m a fan of cap sleeves in the summer for some arm coverage and to stay cool.

Berry and citrus: sweet and unexpected. Orange berry popsicle anyone? I’ve had both of these pieces for a while but never thought to wear them together till recently. This outfit is comfortable for sightseeing and cute for date night.

Mango and cucumber: crisp and simple. Mmmmmm… mango salsa. I like to wear easy outfits on hot days. A T-shirt and an a-line skirt seem to be my summer uniform. This color combination is just so happy to look at.

Outfit Ideas: Spring Color Palette

Spring is finally here! Sunshine, blooms and bunnies have inspired me to freshen up my closet. Here are a few of my favorite spring color palettes.

I love a fun print. Floral and tribal patterns are everywhere this spring season. Tame them with a crisp white shirt for work or a fun top for a night out. Both patterns can be worn through the summer.

Gray and yellow has always been a personal favorite. This combination works for all reasons. Brighten things up for spring by adding a pop of fuchsia. The tee and chinos combination wore with comfy shoes is perfect for a stroll or picnic in the park. Go from day to night by adding a casual blazer, bling and sandals.

Mint and powder pink has become a new go to color palette for me. Mint is the “it” color this season and is more versatile than you might think. Go for a more sophisticated silhouette like a sheath dress, or pair casual shorts with a classic Oxford shirt to make this trendy color look more grown up.
