Beach Baby Nursery

You guys! I can’t wait to share with you this adorable beach baby nursery that a way-back friend of mine, Jordan, created for her soon to arrive beach bum baby. This baby boy nursery captures her love for her baby and the beach beautifully.

My most favorite part of Jordan’s nursery is this Komar Wall Mural, which she found at Lowe’s.

How cool is that? Komar has a lot of really cool wall mural/wallpaper to check out. Check out this whitewashed wall mural by Komar.  I love the texture that this wall brings to her room. Does it not look like the real deal? When she posted a picture of this wall on Facebook, I was positive that she had her crew of family nailing planks on the wall.

What I love about this nursery is that it carries out a theme without feeling like it was purchased in one fell swoop at Babies “R” Us. This is probably because it was not. Jordan’s nursery is full of gifts and crafts from family members and friends. It take a village to raise a child and put together a nursery.

Look at these handmade pieces in her baby’s nursery:

The shadowbox frame is from Jordan’s mother-in-law, who found these shells at various beaches.

I also  enjoy the new trend of an open closet especially for a nursery. It’s a smart use of space for a small room. I love the weathered looking crates and look how organized that closet is! I wish my closets looked like that.

C is for Cookie…

And that’s good enough for me! I’m a bit of an odd one when it comes to desserts. If we are out at a restaurant, I rarely get dessert because I often find myself disappointed by them. Not that I don’t admire the skills behind these complex culinary creations, it’s just sometimes I would rather have an old fashioned, simple dessert. I have always been a cookie person—from Oreos to my beloved Black & White cookie, I find them delicious.

One day I decided to make some sugar cookies because I had never made them before and wanted to try my hand at decorating them. This is a very new hobby, but boy do I enjoy it. There are many amazing cookie blogs out there for fantastic tips and inspiration (Sugarbelle and Sweetopia, are some of my favorites—great tutorials and recipes). My skills aren’t quite as developed as I’d like them to be and I’ve got a lot more to learn, but I am happy with my progress so far. I hope to continue practicing and creating these cute (and yummy) treats.

Just a note—I have absolutely no artistic/drawing talent (I’m lucky if a stick figure comes out decent), so you do not need to be especially artsy to start making some cookies. If I can do it, so can you!

Here’s a look at the cookies I’ve made so far (none of the photos are staged or really ‘photo pretty’– sorry!):

My first-ever cookies were for Rona’s baby shower! Her colors were lavender and grey.

rona cookiesI skipped sugar cookies for Christmas because I made a ton of other cookies instead. Next Christmas I hope to do both!

Here are some Easter Egg cookies—it was fun to work with all of the different colors and patterns.

These fall themed cookies were ideal for Thanksgiving. They went quickly at dessert time!

For St. Patty’s I just did some simple shamrocks because I was super pressed on time.

These spring themed cookies were the biggest batch I’ve made—71 (well 72, but one bunny sadly lost his ears). They were packaged and stickered for my husband as a thank you gift to his clients. It took a while to do, but these are my favorite cookies yet!

I look forward to making many more! Have any of you made some adorable treats?

Outfit Ideas: Spring Color Palette

Spring is finally here! Sunshine, blooms and bunnies have inspired me to freshen up my closet. Here are a few of my favorite spring color palettes.

I love a fun print. Floral and tribal patterns are everywhere this spring season. Tame them with a crisp white shirt for work or a fun top for a night out. Both patterns can be worn through the summer.

Gray and yellow has always been a personal favorite. This combination works for all reasons. Brighten things up for spring by adding a pop of fuchsia. The tee and chinos combination wore with comfy shoes is perfect for a stroll or picnic in the park. Go from day to night by adding a casual blazer, bling and sandals.

Mint and powder pink has become a new go to color palette for me. Mint is the “it” color this season and is more versatile than you might think. Go for a more sophisticated silhouette like a sheath dress, or pair casual shorts with a classic Oxford shirt to make this trendy color look more grown up.
